Terminology of Pallet Racking Components

Pallet racking terminology can be difficult to grasp. Especially if you don’t hear it on a day to day basis. I know I struggled with it when I first started in early November 2015, for months I found myself baffled at certain words I would hear being used around the office.

Here are 3 of the most common Pallet Racking Terminology used in the industry and what they mean:

Pallet Racking Uprights

An upright is a single strut which could connect to a beam to in order to create a platform, two struts can be joined together at a set distance apart to form a frame. Uprights can be various different weights, heights, capacities and colours depending on the user’s requirements and which manufacturer you prefer.

Pallet Racking Frames

The standard depth of a frame is 900mm to meet the requirements of a standard Pallet which are 1200mm in Length and 900mm Deep. Depth of the frame can be adjusted to meet the requirements of your pallets. The load bearing capacity varies depending on the height of the frame. Frames are made up from 2 uprights which are bolted together and must be supported by bracings.

Pallet Racking Beams

Beams are securely connected to frames in pairs and fixed locking pins, one beam at the front and one at the back this forms a level or a platform to store pallets. A standard beam is 2700mm in length with a weight capacity of 2000kgs (2.7m x 2 tonnes). This will accommodate 2 Standard Pallets. Weight capacity, length and colour
