Pallet Racking Inspections, Repairs and Technology, Going To The Next Level
Posted on 2nd November 2017
Are annual racking inspections really enough?
What happens if something goes wrong in-between your inspections?
What happens if your racking is damaged during the night shift?
Pallet racking problems often go unnoticed until your annual racking inspections. This will of course highlight any potential dangers and the need to replace or repair the damage.
New developments in technology have been created to assist businesses with their racking inspections and offer a massive time saving monitoring your racking repairs, the new technology undoubtedly means that the working environment will become a safer place for your employees to work.
These technological breakthroughs have been created in the format of an app or sensor – highlighting any impacts in real time by sending a report containing locations, times, dates and impact velocity to any mobile phone, tablet or email account.
One particular system that has been developed will also notify warehouse teams to the potentially damaged location through an inspection app – the app allows users to inspect the damaged leg and enter the relevant information such as impact levels, images, general housekeeping notes and much more. The system logs the impact data to a secure cloud server which can be accessed by any device at any time of the day from anywhere in the world. The data collected can be created into a report and shared with any third party to quote for pallet racking repairs. The system that has been developed can differentiate between everyday rack vibrations and dangerous racking damage.
Trials have been run through a distribution centre of a major UK supermarket chain, the first month’s results were astounding with a 70% reduction in impact levels equating to a reduction in pallet racking repair costs of around £49,000 per annum.
How great is that!
This is why it is so important to keep on top of your rack inspections and help minimise damage!
