Types of Mezzanine Floors

Mezzanine Floors is a general term for a raised steel structure to create an additional level of flooring which can be used for a multitude of uses from storage and production to office and retail.

Mezzanines provide an excellent method of utilising the available height within a facility to increase floor space and avoid the need to move to larger premises.

The flexibility of a mezzanine floor enables you to achieve different spaces on each level, depending on your requirements. And as the structure is semi-permanent, it can be dismantled and relocated to another area within the same facility or a completely new building, should you decide to move in the future.

So, what can a mezzanine floor be used for?

Industrial Mezzanine Floors

Industrial Mezzanine Floors are a highly versatile means of creating additional floor space in a production environment and tend to feature a combination of storage space, production space and/or office space.

With unlimited possibilities, the key to designing the most effective industrial mezzanine floor is to be very clear on the objectives. For more information, read our blog on Mezzanine Floor Cost.

Mezzanine Floors for Storage

Storage space is often a major issue within facilities, particularly when racking doesn’t suit the area being stored or when shelving layouts needs to vary on each level.

Mezzanine Floors provide complete flexibility for your storage requirements enabling any combination of shelving, longspan or block stacking.

Pallet gates can be incorporated to enable the safe movement of goods between the two levels and to ensure operators working on the raised level cannot accidentally fall.

Conveyor systems can also be incorporated for projects which require a constant movement of boxed goods or cartons.

Mezzanine Floors for Production Space

Maximising production space is a key challenge for any manufacturing company and mezzanine floors can often provide the required floor space without the need to move to larger premises.

Depending on the nature of the machinery and equipment being located on the mezzanine, the steelwork may need to be uprated and or the column grid reduced to provide the additional loading capacity.

Mezzanine Floors for Office Space

Mezzanine floors provide the perfect solution for creating additional office space, particularly in industrial units and car showrooms. This can minimise the floor space required for office space whilst maximising the production area or indeed provide a secure storage facility to ground level.

Mezzanine floors can also provide contemporary offices, meeting rooms and board rooms with glass partitioning.

Retail Mezzanine Floors

Mezzanine floors have proved to be extremely popular in retail outlets, particularly those in retail parks where the buildings tend to be new and formulaic.

By adding a mezzanine floor, retailers have been able to dramatically increase the square meterage of retail space, maximise shelf space and therefore maximise profits.

With unlimited design possibilities, the mezzanine can be completely customised to appear to be an integral feature of the building with a seamless look and feel.

And thanks to the semi-permanent nature of the mezzanine, they can be easily dismantled in the dilapse process, where required.
