At Advanced Handling & Storage Ltd, we’re proud to have supported Hillary’s Blinds, a valued customer of ours since 2000, with a major warehouse optimisation project designed to enhance efficiency, safety, and storage capacity.
Having partnered with Hillary’s since 2000, we’ve developed a strong understanding of their operational requirements and how these have evolved over time. Their existing PSS pallet racking, which had been in continuous use for 25 years, was beginning to show signs of age, no longer offering the flexibility or safety required for their modern warehousing demands.
Hillary’s required a full overhaul that could be delivered and installed to a high standard, on time, and with minimal disruption to their day-to-day operations.
Over a carefully planned 14-week schedule, we worked closely with our trusted installation partners, GMP Installations, to manage a seamless transition from old to new. This involved a full dismantle of the legacy racking system and a comprehensive redesign of the warehouse layout.
The new installation included:
Link 51 Pallet Racking
A high-quality, versatile system chosen for its strength, durability and compatibility with Hillary’s existing stock profiles. The setup accommodated both standard palletised goods and tube storage.
Dedicated Tube Racking
Designed specifically for Hillary’s long, narrow components such as blinds and curtain rods, this allowed for better organisation and space optimisation.
Mesh Decks
Added across the pallet racking bays to improve safety, allow light and air flow, and provide a stable surface for non-standard loads.
Chipboard Shelving
Installed to support hand-pick operations for smaller or lightweight items, increasing ease of access and operational speed.
Guide Rails
Fitted along designated forklift lanes to ensure safe and accurate navigation, reducing the risk of accidental damage to the racking structure or goods.
Cantilever Racking
Introduced to handle long and awkward items that would not suit standard pallet racking. This provided a dedicated, easy-access area for bulkier components.
Anti-Collapse Mesh Screens
Installed at the rear of the racking to protect walkways and working areas from potential falling items, enhancing overall warehouse safety.
The dismantling of the original PSS system was a significant task in itself, and we’re proud to note that it was carried out by the same team of subcontractors who installed the racking 25 years ago—now operating under GMP Installations. Their experience, knowledge of the site, and high standards of workmanship contributed to a smooth and efficient transition.
The project has delivered a significantly improved warehouse layout for Hillary’s, supporting:
Better categorisation of stock
Safer day-to-day operations
More efficient use of space
Future scalability as their needs grow
By replacing a 25-year-old system with a modern, fit-for-purpose solution, Hillary’s now benefits from a safer, more efficient, and fully optimised storage environment tailored to their unique needs.
