The Pallet Racking People
Push Back Pallet Racking is another way to optimise your use of warehouse space. It is an accumulative storage system which allows you to store up to four pallets deep per level.
All of the pallets are placed on a set of trolleys which are pushed along the rails. These are built on a slight incline (lower at the front and higher at the back) so that the pallets move forwards when the front pallet is removed. It works on the LIFO structure (Last In First Out) which is ideal for storing medium turnover products.
The Fact that it is a compact storage unit means that it really optimises the space available. It allows you to store a lot more compared to the conventional storage system.
The way that the loading works is quite simple:
The forklift puts the first pallet on the highest trolley.
When loading the second pallet, the first one pushes the pallet along until the second trolley set is reached and puts the pallet on this.
This is then repeated again for the third pallet.
The fourth pallet is then placed directly on top of the rail rather than on the trolley.
When unloading this process is reversed. So you take the fourth pallet off and then the third pallet moves towards the front. Once you take the third pallet off the second pallet moves forwards and so on. The way this is designed also means that you can add to the front of the pallet and the pallets behind it just get ‘Pushed Back’ again… hence the name ‘Push Back Pallet Racking’.
