Getting your racking checked annually in the form of safety inspections is now a legal requirement. It is also strongly recommended that you perform regular checks yourself. As a business owner you will want to do as much as you can in order to keep your staff and your stock safe.

You need to make sure you do the following to really keep everything in working order and to keep the environment safe.

Immediate Reporting

As soon as a problem or damage is observed by anyone it should be reported immediately to the person responsible for racking safety. You need to ensure that you have someone responsible for this and keeping records as well as having a system in place for reporting damage.

Visual Inspections

These ideally need to be made on a weekly basis. This can help you to catch issues quickly before they become a major problem. You should be able to find some sort of risk assessment form online to download and fill in. You need to keep these in a safe place so you always have a formal written record.

Annual Safety Inspections

These need to be done by a technically competent person and need to be carried out annually. As mentioned these are now a legal requirements. A written report from this should be submitted and highlight any actions necessary.
